Taigh a’ Bhread, Isle of Lewis

Scottish accommodation, Scottish Islands

Sleeps 6, newly refurbished
A winter stopover for me - the luxury of a whole week by myself on this beautiful corner of the Isle of Lewis. The house is cosy, large enough for 6 and had a sense of space that I love so much. I loved that it was out by itself, secluded and quiet even though it was actually in the village of Gress. I also loved very much the large indulgent modern bath which was gratefully filled after my occasional dips into the rather chilly sea.
A short 2 min drive or a 10 min walk and at the end of the road is the parking for Gress beach. Quiet and beautiful in the morning light. My best memory was driving back one day and briefly stopping in this car park to watch an incredible rainbow. I was so busy looking at the sky that it took me 5 minutes to see about 8 seals playing very close by at the shore's edge. Loved it here and highly recommend it. This side of Lewis has some amazing beaches and is a very nice part to stay in.

Walking on the Isle of Harris – Ceapabhal

Yesterday afternoon I decided to walk up Ceapabhal on the Isle of Harris. I’ve been meaning to do this on a sunny day for a while, so I set off after photographing a beach wedding earlier that day. I experienced views down to turquoise seas and over Harris. Just me,...
